Lecture: Our Common Future? Political questions for designing social innovation


Docent lecture by Ramia Mazá. Time and place: Medea, Malmö University on October 17th from 13.15 – 14.00. All are welcome. The lecture is followed by a reception.

Ramia Mazé, Ph.D. specializes in participatory and critical approaches to design. At the Interactive Institute in Sweden since 2001, she has led research teams and published widely through interdisciplinary and international projects in the areas of sustainable development, design activism, smart materials, and interactive spaces. Examples include her current project, ‘Designing Social Innovation’, which critically surveys projects in the US and Europe, and DESIGN ACT with Magnus Ericson (Berlin: Sternberg Press / Iaspis, 2010), which highlighted issues and practices of socially- and politically-engaged design. She currently teaches at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design and at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Previously, she worked in corporate research and design consultancies in the US and UK, and studied architecture (BA), computer-related design (MA) and interaction design (PhD).

About Eva Brandt

Eva Brandt is Professor in Social Design at Design School Kolding since May 2019. Eva is scientific leader of the Lab for Social Design. The main part of her research is about how designers can stage open design processes (design labs based on participatory design/codesign) with many participants who both can inquire into existing practices and explore possible futures in common. She also contributes to theorizing about experimental design research driven by programs and experiments. She has been contributing to several books such as Design Spaces (IT Press, 2005), Rehearsing the Future (The Danish Design School Press, 2010), XLAB (The Danish Design School Press, 2011), Facilitating Change – Using Interactive Methods in Organizations, Communities and Networks (Polyteknisk Forlag, 2011), and Routledge International Handbook of Participatory Design (Routledge, 2013). Eva has been chairing the Nordic Design Research Conference in 2013, and are chairing the Nordes 2021 too.
