IRMA’S POP-UP LAB

Xénia Geller (from Schweiz) has just graduated from the Codesign Master program.  She has been collaborating with Irma and Coop Amba. They asked her to design a pop-up which could help Irma & Coop Amba to engage with their customers. Xenia wanted to created a space – an environment where people could explore and create future sustainable solutions together.

Xenia explains: Irma’s Pop-Up Lab is a design concept that enables Irma’s employees to engage customers in the exploration and development of future sustainable solutions. The design concept, which has been largely developed within the Irma Platan shop on Vesterbrogade 162, Frederiksberg, is a process comprising of three interlinked interventions: Let us know, Tell me why, and Let’s make it.

The Let us know intervention generates curiosity and encourages customers to reflect on open and speculative questions exposed in the shop or within an Irma event. The Tell me why intervention questions customers more formally, inviting them into a dialogue around a specific topic or action happening in the shop, and/or around a product/service offered by the shop. The Let’s make it intervention, gathers environmentally conscious and active people, as well as customers who are emotionally attached to their local Irma store, in a co-creative session to elaborate by making prototypes of new future solutions based on given insights.

The process is interlinked, as the outcomes or insights generated from one intervention can feed into and inspire material that can be explored further during the next intervention. The process is delivered to Irma in the form of a toolkit, which combines an educational training program and supporting visual material.

As Irma’s Pop-Up Lab concept can take place in any Irma shop, and be facilitated by Irma’s employees who would have followed the required training program; the toolkit is framed within the platform of a mobile application to allow for easier sharing and an intuitive user experience. Furthermore, the application allows each user to upload stories, videos and images from the interventions they facilitate, and react to other users’ stories. Hence, users can learn from each other’s experiences, and also use feedback to determine the direction the generated outcomes should take.
