Welcome to open seminar with Raquel Noronha, Associate Professor and current Director of Design and Technology Department at Federal University of Maranhão and Zoy Anastassakis, Associate Professor and current Director of the Superior School of Industrial Design, State University of Rio de Janeiro. Friday May 25th from 15.00 – 17.00. Place: CODE (Center for Codesign Research), Room 90. 3. 15, KADK, Fabrikmestervej 6, 1435 Copenhagen K.
This seminar presents researches projects conducted by two Brazilian researchers who are experimenting on practicing Anthropology by means of Design, and Design by means of Anthropology, from the notion of correspondence (Ingold, 2018, 2016). These are research projects that are not based on classic Design or Anthropology practices, but rather on collaborative social experiences that comes to life by the activation of our response abilities (Ingold, 2018; Haraway, 2016), our capacity to correspond to what the ‘others’ do, whether they are ‘in the field’ or in the educational institutions in which we work. These ‘others’ are here perceived as skilled practitioners (Ingold, 2000) with whom we seek to establish correspondence relationships, thus creating common collaborative research projects.
In this seminar, such questions emerge from the experiments carried out by Professors Raquel Noronha (PhD) and Zoy Anastassakis (PhD), respectively coordinators of the Research Group in Innovation, Design and Anthropology (NIDA), in the Department of Design and Technology of the Federal University of Maranhão, and the Laboratory of Design and Anthropology (LADA), at the Superior School of Industrial Design of the State University of Rio de Janeiro. These experiments are made through collaborative research projects carried out in partnership with skilled practitioners such as (1) artists, artisans and indigenous and maroons communities, (2) design researchers and students.
